Collection and Use of Information
We may collect the following information:
Contact and Other Personal Information. When you sign up using the Site or contact us in some other manner (such as by using an e-mail address provided on the Site), we receive the personal information you provide, such as your name, phone number, mailing address, and e-mail address. We also may collect such personal information when you use tools and functionality (such as early voting or voting by mail assistance) made available through the Site from time to time. We record your expressions of interest in participation and volunteer opportunities, and we take note of your involvement in the campaign. If you establish a profile on the Site, we administer your username and password information. We may also collect demographic information you may voluntarily provide, such as in response to questionnaires, including gender, ethnicity, education, and interest information. We may also obtain information from other sources (such as ads on other websites) and combine that with information we collect on our Site. If any of this information is tied to personal information, it will also be treated as personal information.
We use personal information only for campaign purposes, such as to respond to your inquiries or to contact you regarding volunteering or other opportunities to participate, contribute, or otherwise show your support. We will also periodically send you news and information that we believe may be of interest to you. You may opt-out of receiving such communications by using the contact information below or an unsubscribe link in an email message from us.
If you provide your e-mail address or other information to us through a Google search results or other webpage, we will use the information you provide solely for the purpose for which you provided such information to us (e.g., to subscribe you to a newsletter, send an e-mail response to your request, etc.). Any related organizations or other third parties that assist us will be required to agree that such information may only be used as described as set forth in the preceding sentence.
Posts on the Site. Information you post in blogs, forums, or any other interactive areas of the Site should be considered to be publicly available. In addition, when you sign up on the Site and participate, other users who have signed up may view your related activities on the Site, such as joining an interest group or spreading the word. We recommend that you exercise caution in giving out personal information to others or sharing personal information in any public or private online forum.
Contribution information. In connection with contributions, we collect relevant information such as the donor’s name, contribution amount, billing address, phone number, employer, occupation, and e-mail address. We use this information to process the transaction, to update our records of financial supporters, and to report political campaign contributions as required by law. Please note that State law requires us to use best efforts to collect and report the name and address, principal occupation or job title, and full name of employer of individuals whose contributions equal or exceed $500 in a reporting period. All payment card information is handled in a secure manner as required by law.
Log Data. Our Site may automatically record information concerning website (or mobile application) usage by you. This may include your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, mobile device identifier, browser type, the types of information you search for and view on the Site, locale or language preferences, the address of a referring website, and the location of your device. We use this information to understand users’ preferences and to improve our Site.
Geo-Location Information. Many mobile devices and platforms permit website applications to access location-based information. When available, we may collect such information, with your consent, in order to enhance the features and functionality of our Site and to better understand our supporter base.
Social Media Data. The collection and use of information on social media websites and applications is governed by their own privacy policies. Please remember that any information posted on the Texans for Greg Abbott Page on Facebook or on other campaign social media pages or channels is public.
We may receive personal information from a social media site platform or application when you connect through a social media feed, post content, or otherwise participate in our campaign using social media tools. For example, we may receive basic Facebook account information (name, e-mail, gender, birthday, current city, and profile picture URL) through our Facebook Page. Also, when you “like,” “subscribe to,” or send a “tweet” to us through a social media channel, we may receive your username, handle, and any other available personal information from the social media site or application. If you make a contribution through a social media channel, we are required to collect certain personal information as described above. All information received from social media sites and applications is treated and used in the same manner and for the same purposes as described in this Policy with respect to similar information we obtain through the Site.
Aggregate Information. We may collect and use aggregate information regarding use of the Site or about a category of users of the Site. To the extent that such aggregate information includes any personal information, it will be treated in accordance with this Policy.
We provide personal information to our service providers and volunteers so that they may assist us in connection with operating the Site and running the campaign. However, we require that they use personal information only for that purpose, and we require assurances that they will appropriately protect personal information entrusted to them. We also may disclose information concerning you if required to do so by law or if we believe that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation or to protect and defend our rights or property, or those of others.
We are committed to maintaining the security of personal information. We employ reasonable security measures to secure and protect the information we receive. Please remember, though, that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children under the age of 13 should not provide any information to us using the Site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. We urge all parents to participate in their children’s exploration of the Internet and to teach them about protecting their personal information while online.
